What happens to love? Where does love hide? In this modern reworking of themes from Jane Eyre, first published as 'Love Without Shadows' and now revised and updated by the author, Patricia Finney gives us the story of Anna Clements, overburdened and disappointed wife, mother and community nurse, who no longer believes in her own beauty and her own chance of happiness. Anna spends her days caring for the dying in southern Cornwall, UK, and then in the evenings she returns to a husband who has forgotten how to love her. Anna gives so much of herself, in her work and at home, but in return, she is taken for granted.
And then one day, a man rides into Anna’s life who is so obviously wrong for her, so obviously dangerous, that she is reluctant even to accept his help with the patient who knows him. He’s gentle and he’s caring, but as Anna begins to trust him, she also realises that he has a secret.
Patricia Finney is the author of the James Enys mysteries, 'Do We Not Bleed?' and 'Priced Above Rubies', and (as P F Chisholm) the Robert Carey novels, all available from the Bookstore.

I have now finished Patricia Finney's Lucky Woman. I wasn't sure what to expect from the cover, but I can tell you it was a terrific ride! Just when you think you've figured out exactly what the book is and where it's going, WHAM, a plot chunk slams you. But lest you think that makes this unrealistic or confusing, it doesn't, at all. A chance meeting upends the characters' lives in so many ways. Many things are not how they look. Our intrepid heroine is an immensely likable mother and nurse, with whom I quite identified. Although it's different in genre from Patricia's other books, there are just as many laugh aloud moments. I read bits aloud to my husband who was also amused. It's a second chance story, but it's also a romance, a mystery, and, when you least expect it, a heart-stopping thriller. I really enjoyed it and recommend it! I'll be rereading it, because I went through it pretty fast, just to find out what happened. When I go back, I'll be slowly enjoying it for the prose!Product details

Lucky Woman eBook Patricia Finney Reviews
I expected better from a historical fiction author I have always enjoyed. The writing was good but the story far fetched.
This story, with its surprise ending, is very readable. There are not the typos which mar some of Finney's other books.
If it's Patrica Finney, then I want to read it. It's a nice satisfying and very realistically drawn story. It's romance and murder and tension and some lighthearted stuff about facing death and life after divorce.
Finney’s powerful voice is as compelling in this modern-day story as in her historical novels. I rarely find a book that I can't put down, but this one took up every spare moment and more, and the ending was so exciting that I had to skip ahead to see what happened. Great stuff!
I thought the book was extremely interesting. The characters came alive & were well written. It would have received 5 stars except there was a glitch in program & an error message occurred with just several pages left. The error message suggested sending it to the cloud but that didn't work either. Really Frustrating!! I went with my own ending.
The idea of a terminal care nurse and a mysterious, tattooed biker did not sound promising, but the characters turned out to be rich and complex, and the plot a twisting, turning wild ride. The more of Finney's work I read, the more I like her!
Finney is better known for her historical fiction, but in this contemporary novel she shows that her skills in handling character translate well. She understands people -- and their interactions are always interesting, sometimes moving, and quite frequently funny in several different ways.
