I loved this book. I wish it was longer. I hope the author comes out with a follow-up because I want to know what happens to the characters in this book. This was steamy yet not over the top. I have already recommended this book to many of my friends. This is a must read. Enjoy!!!
We get to meet past characters (from the Goth Fair) and new characters in this book. The sarcastic wit and humor is ever present in this book that makes the McAlister series so much fun to read. If you want to snicker out loud and check in on how Fran and Benedikt are doing, read this book!
This book is great even if you are reading it as a stand alone story. I didn't look to see where this book was in the series before reading it. Once I had finished the book I then realized that it is tenth in the series. That's okay. I really don't mind reading it again.
I laughed and thought the dialog between Io and Nikola was funny but when the book ended I found I just didn't understand many, many things. Maybe it was because I read it late at night and was getting tired? If you know the answers to my questions let me know!

So was Rulf REALLY trying to kill Nikola or was he just trying to get rid of Io? Why was Nikola hit on the head then? What was Rulf talking to that stable boy about exactly? What the heck were they talking about when they said someone Nikola knew was plotting against them, or whatever?? I find it hard to believe they were talking about Io because they had just kinda met earlier in the book and it doesn't explain for their sudden appearance at the castle. Also, Rulf summoned a demon for the butler??? Why??? And why did the butler, i'm guessing, kidnap shifters?? The whole second timeline thing just confused things even more.... Io didn't exist in it??? Some other woman was killed and left Nikola heartbroken? there wasn't any other woman in the book that was even remotely competition of Io. How does that make sense with the only only one Beloved thing??? Or maybe the woman was Io? If so, aren't the Dark Ones supposed to not want to exist without their Beloved? Not completely cut off their kids and go to South America.

One of the things I love about this book is it isn't just paranormal but it is also a time travel book. Very rarely do we get to go back in time and meet a vampire. Ca'mon, that's pretty cool. I also like that the lead character was a little older this time. The problem isn't so much that the heroine time travels back, the problems start when she comes home.

Iolanthe has had some issues. After being sexual harassed at work and then fired for reporting it, she has a new career to start. Iolanthe or IO, as she likes to be called, has all ways liked photography. So when she visits her cousin Gretal for the summer, she thinks the local scenery may be perfect to start her new career. When she meets some of Gretal's friends, she thinks they are weird. When one of them thinks he is a vampire or Dark One, IO knows someone is not working on all cylinders. Imogene and Ben, brother and sister, talk of there father, Nicola. Imogene says he has died, Ben says he is in Brazil sleeping with lots of women. As IO talks with the two, she knows there is something off with them. They keep asking IO, what she is? It just makes IO more and more confused. Imogene agrees to let IO take pictures of her but not near one area of the forest. IO's curiosity is peaked. When she goes to the area by herself, and finds a swirling mist and wonders what it is. She goes to put her arm through it and take pictures of it and ZAP! Waking up 300 years is just the start of her problems.

Katie MacAlister does it again. I vote her as Queen of situational humor! I laugh in every one of her books! IO, is very funny and even when she really does not know what the heck is going on, is confident and sticks to her principles. Nicola, although stuffy and uptight at first, really grows on you. He really almost has to learn how to love again. They two, you know are meant for one another but they of course fight it all the way. They use the excuse of lust rather than love. As the story unfolds, IO is reluctant to say the words even though you know she feels it in her heart. Will IO be able to make the Ultimate sacrifice? You will have to read A Tale of Two Vampires!! AWESOME dark ones tale. If you want to laugh and read a good story this is one for you. Has adult situations, so 18 and up. Also lots of misunderstandings and LOL comedy!

I liked the intro to timetravel in Io and Nickola's story, but once again, the plot was a little on the thin side for me. Nickola's "scientific method" was cringeworthy rather than endearing (yes, I get that he was advanced for his time, but it made him seem child-like, rather than like a strong, sexy vampire). Not the worst book in the series, but far from the best!
