Excellent YA read - a post apocalyptic story with a supernatural twist. Great characters and well written with little lag.
The author creates a world full of struggle, mutants, and action. Drake and Kelsie have real personality and charisma. Drake is a handsome 17yo. "hunter", he's solid, but not invincible. He is easy going and has feelings for Kelsie that he keeps hidden under the guise of roommate and friend.
Kelsie is a pretty but nerdy 16yo. who is a strong, take-charge kind of girl when the situation calls for it.
The dialogue is witty and down-to-earth with a flow of humor written at appropriate times.
The romantic elements are light and leave room for a real story to develop. Really enjoyed the alternating POV - adds so much to a story and let's the reader really know what's going on...

Splinter Whisper Walker Series Book 1 edition by London Cole Children eBooks Reviews

Action, secrets and mutants. What more can you ask for. Oh right Mystery. This is a great story for young and old. But please be advised, it is not for the faint of heart.lol
Great read easy to follow. I Will be getting more as they come out. I love getting the free book and then NEEDING to buy the next.
Really enjoyed this book. Very well written. At no point in the story were you waiting for something to happen. Contained a little action, romance and mystery. Although you could tell there will be a continuance to the series, you weren't left hanging. Would recommend to anyone who wants quick, satisfying read.
Ash season comes once per year-ok I can go with that. Ash season occurs bc of pollution. Wait a minute...so when ash season is over, it's really good b/c the ash is great for fertilizer. HUH?

Kelsie jumps over the wall & 2 mutants try to kill her within seconds. But when she & Drake go out on a lengthy hike to the border of their lands...NO MUTANTS...magic!

Conceptually, why would this be a post-nuclear whatever place and they are sending folks out scrounging for basic necessities...and Drake is shampooing AND conditioning his hair. Ummm really? so conditioner is pretty easy to find huh?

Kelsie is drinking tea. REAL tea, not that 'healthy' concoction her officemate is drinking. They are inside a wall...where are they planting all this tea and/or healthy whatever they are drinking? where is there room? Tea is rough on the land and tough to grow...why would they waste the space instead of for food?

So, 12 year olds grow up fast...and Drake hasn't figured out Kelsie can fend for herself ...in this tiny community, no one would know and tell him?? FOR YEARS? And then having them live together in a house? In a guild where coitus is not allowed without permission...really? How many teenagers do you know who would be like...Oh golly, ok. Then there is the curfew that isn't actually enforced...

Why would it be in any guild's interest to try to kill other humans? One would assume trade would be highly valued in this time.

Drake fell in the hole, and pain exploded down his arm...then we never hear about it again...

One last thing...a girl, a YOUNG girl, would NOT think about her necklace dangling at the edge of her 'cleavage'...she wouldn't think of herself as having 'cleavage'!

This is just not well thought out. There is no consistency....There are some good ideas trying to get through, but no research, no thought through aspects of how it might be a bit difficult living in a post-nuclear war setting....

and i'm only 1/4 of the way through...i don't know if i can finish...aaaargh
I didn't think I was going to like this book as much as I did...mostly because first person narrative is not my favorite story vehicle. However, the swapping of perspective redeemed, the often narrow, first person perspective. The characters were well imagined with depth and believability. The plot sets up a nice world to play in for the author, and readers can see the possibility of new stories to come! All in all a good read!
I've had my eye on this book for awhile now ( I only now could afford it<grin>) and was really excited to be able to get it!
This turned out to be a above average read. I enjoyed the dialog between the characters, it was smart & witty ( I did think Kelsie was a tad too naive.)
The plot line held my attention and the action was well placed within the story. This book never stalled or faltered until the end. (I realize that there will be a sequel which I will buy) The ending was really choppy, not smooth like the rest of the book. That left me frustrated. All in all I do recommend this book! I don't you'll be disappointed! 👍
This novel is a dystopian novel set up in a world divided into hostile colonies fighting for resources, political power, and land. I really enjoyed this novel and the evolution of its characters and their relationships. The paranormal powers that develop in the main female and male lead are in rhythm of the world they live in. This novel was an easy read that kept me entertained until the end. I am looking forward to the rest of the series and am involved in the characters' survival.
